One of the most pressing issues is the rise in gun-related violence. Government officials often manipulate crime statistics to suggest crime is decreasing, but we, especially those in the City of Rochester, know the truth. Violent crime and gun-related violence are on the rise, and this problem is not just an urban problem.
This issue has been ignored by our current leadership, including the County Clerk, who has done nothing to combat this violence. Instead, the current Clerk has harassed lawful gun owners and businesses, wrongly believing this approach will curb violence. It is not lawful gun owners committing these crimes. This misguided policy only harms businesses, supports ineffective measures, and threatens your constitutional rights.
Together with law enforcement, neighborhood groups, and clergy, we will promote responsible gun ownership, work to remove illegal guns from the streets, and stop gun-related violence. I will dedicate a team in the Clerk’s office to this mission.
