This week our conversation includes Sylus Vazquez, son of Next Steps Show host, Peter Vazquez; a wild and free kid who takes God, County, Family and Personal Responsibility seriously.
Sylus N. Vazquez is a dynamic and responsible 24-year-old individual who takes great pride in his work. After finishing high school, Sylus discovered his passion for working with his hands in the construction industry. He began his apprenticeship with the prestigious UA Local 669 Fire Sprinkler Fitters Union in 2018 and is now just a few months away from turning out of his time.
As an apprentice Fire Sprinkler Fitter, Sylus gained invaluable knowledge not only about the mechanics of the trade but also about the importance of building relationships in the industry. He firmly believes that the key to success in the construction world lies not only in mastering the technical skills but also in forging positive connections with colleagues and clients.
Sylus recognizes the construction industry’s vital role in society, referring to it as the backbone of infrastructure. He understands that without the contributions of skilled tradespeople like plumbers, carpenters, HVAC technicians, electricians, and Fire Sprinkler Fitters, society could not function properly. Unfortunately, the industry has suffered from negative stereotypes and poor relationships, leading to a perception that tradesmen and women are inferior to college-educated professionals.
Sylus passionately advocates for learning a trade and dispelling the myth that there is no money or pride to be found in a career in the trades. He recognizes the sense of accomplishment and independence that comes from mastering a trade and being able to support oneself and one’s family. He urges young people to join the movement and become skilled tradespeople, helping to rebuild the construction industry’s reputation and make a positive impact on society.
Listen in to learn what Next Steps one person has taken for the betterment of others.
